DELSU Scholar, HGO Igben Gets NIPR Assignment

A seasoned public relations scholar at Delta State University, Abraka, Dr. Harvey Igben, has been billed for the lead speaker’s role in the forthcoming Public Relations Clinic and monthly general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Delta State Chapter.
Igben, who is currently the Head of Mass Communication at DELSU, will speak on “Public Relations for Good Governance” at the meeting scheduled for February 8, 2024.
The event will hold at the main Library of the Petroleum Training Institute, Warri and will commence at 11:00am.
Igben is an accomplished communication scholar who has successfully carved an enviable niche for himself as an authority in the field of practical public relations.
He prides himself as one of the few Nigerian scholars with clear-cut certification in the slippery roads of public relations, having obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Relations from Nigeria’s oldest school of Communication, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 1996.
The academically adventurous and intellectually robust Igben had earlier obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma degree in Marketing in 1994, and a Master of Arts in Mass Communication degree in 2001 also from UNN.
He later proceeded to the University of Salfard in the United Kingdom where he capped his academic sojourn with the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in 2016, with research focus on Public relations and conflict management.
It is worth knowing that Igben’s voracious appetite for knowledge transcends the physical as he has never lived by bread alone.
He is, in fact, a true Christian by faith and a well-groomed teacher of God’s holy word, holding both Master’s and PhD degrees in Biblical Studies from Freelandia, USA.
He is meek, humane and godly in every sense of the terms.
As a scholar, Igben has published widely in local and international journals, with one of his masterpiece titled, ‘Fundamentals of Public Relations’, adorning many Nigerian universities and becoming a companion to public relations practitioners and researchers across Africa.
After over a decade stint as a public relations consultant in the oil and gas industry, Dr. Igben began his teaching career with the Delta State University, Abraka in 1997, and has grown through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer of Mass Communication.
In 2022, the Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, appointed Igben as the Head of Mass Communication Department in recognition of his impressive academic and administrative profiles.
Since assuming this new role, Igben has left no one in doubt of his capabilities as he continues to push boundaries and extend frontiers in the Department’s evolving status.
He has further entrenched the favourable disposition of the Department toward Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in ways beyond count.
He has engineered faster and more efficient ways of Communication among staff and students of the Department, and continues to promote the paperless culture within the university community.
Igben once said: “An academic community embraces an innovative process that is verifiably efficient and effective for solving problems in varying contexts… The digital age is here, we must wake up to run with it”.
