Oji Takes Over Headship of Mass Comm Dept At DELSU

Dr. Majority Oji, a renowned Nigerian media and communication scholar, has been appointed to head the Department of Mass Communication at Delta State University, Abraka.
Oji, an Associate Professor of Mass Communication with expertise cutting across journalism, public opinion and propaganda, will be taking over the headship baton from Public Relations and Advertising czar, Dr. Harvey Igben.
According to an official bulletin issued by the university’s Public Relations Unit, Oji’s appointment was at the pleasure of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga who delights in placing square pegs where they fit.
The appointment is for one year beginning from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
The announcement comes at a crucial time when the National Universities Commission (NUC) has unbundled Mass Communication into several disciplines and made it a distinct faculty.
Among others, Oji’s litmus test will include steering the transition course of the Department into the proposed School of Communication and Media Studies which was recently approved by the University Governing Council.
Oji holds a doctorate in Mass Communication from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and obtained a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Lagos.
He is arguably a proficient communication scholar with over 18 years of experience in the communication world.
The appointee is currently one of the Vice-Presidents and Head of the South-South Zone of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), one of the leading Research Association in Nigeria.
Oji has participated in UNESCO and Ford Foundation Committees and Research Commissions, with scholarly publications in local and international journals that are indexed in major global databases, including Scopus.
