The Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu, has commended the Management of Delta State University, Abraka, for the judicious utilisation of its internally generated revenue and provision of high level manpower to the society.
Emetulu gave the commendation in Abraka when he led members of the Committee on a working visit to the university for an on-the-spot assessment of the utilisation of funds so far appropriated for various projects in the University by the state government.
The lawmaker praised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Andy Egwunyenga and the Management of the university for efficiently managing its internally generated revenue and interventions funds from federal government agencies to build faculty complexes, classrooms and laboratories.
He explained that the visit was to verify the proper accountability of both public funds allocated for state government projects in the university and those generated internally by the institution.
He also commended the university authority for being able to maintain an uninterrupted academic calendar, produce high quality graduates and hold convocation annually.
He pointed out that the fact that the current Executive Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. In his welcome address, Egwunyenga had also thanked the lawmakers for the visit and for always supporting the university through the enactment of enabling laws, budgetary allocations and monitoring of state government projects in the university.
The V-C informed the visiting team that, according to the latest higher education report, the university is currently ranked 22nd among all universities in Nigeria, the 3rd Best State University in Nigeria, and the Best State University in the South-South and South-East Regions of the country because of the support from the State Executive Council and the House of Assembly.
