Oborevwori Charges New DELSU Governing Council On Innovative Curricula

The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged the Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka, to consistently pursue innovation in enhancing the institution’s curricula so as to elevate the standards of teaching and learning and ultimately enhance the quality of graduates.
The Governor gave this charge in Asaba on Friday during the swearing-in and inauguration of newly appointed chairmen and members of parastatals, agencies and governing councils of government institutions
Oborevwori emphasised that the primary focus of his administration’s policy in the education sector is to ensure the provision of high quality education within a safe and supportive environment.
According to him, there is need to continually improve the curricula of educational institutions in the state to be at par with global standards to enable students acquire critical thinking, entrepreneurial, leadership and social skills as well as imbibe the culture of team work.
In pursuit of these goals, the Governor highlighted that DELSU and other higher institutions in the state must integrate theory and practice through multidisciplinary research to tackle the complex challenges of an increasingly diverse technology-driven society and proffer real time solutions to issues of urban decay, potable water supply, alternative energy sources, public transport network as well as waste management and treatment.
Oborevwori equally charged the Governing Council of the higher institutions to entrench the culture of maintenance of school infrastructure and property.
According to him, the state government is committing a lot of resources to create a conducive teaching and learning environment for both staff and students in the institutions and this gesture should be reciprocated by proper maintenance to curb wastage.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Chairman of DELSU Governing Council, Gen. Alexander Ogomudia (Rtd), thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve and promised that they will do their best to pursue and consolidate on the achievement of the M.O.R.E. Agenda of the Delta State Government in their different agencies and institutions.
The ceremony featured the oath-taking of the Chairman and a Commissioner in the Delta State Service Commission, pledge of allegiance by the new Auditor-General of Local Governments and inauguration of Governing Councils of DELSU, College of Physical Education. Mosogar; Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Delta State Polytechnic, Burutu and Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku as well as boards of Delta State Investment and Development Agency (DIDA), Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (DEMSMA), Delta State Trust Mortgage Bank Limited and UICD.
