DELSU Moves To Commence CIBN Linkage Programme That May Affect Staff, Students
The Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof Andy Egwunyenga, has declared that the university will continue to explore opportunities to enhance the ability of its students to perform excellently in the industry after graduation.
The Vice-Chancellor made the declaration on Tuesday in Abraka while welcoming a delegation from the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) to the university’s Abraka campus.
The CIBN delegation was on a visit to assess facilities in the university towards the establishment of a professional linkage programme for staff and students in related disciplines.
Egwunyenga, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Rosemary Okoh, expressed his gratitude to the institute for its interest in the university.
He emphasised that DELSU remains committed to enhancing the quality of its graduates and will continue to pursue systematic improvements across all areas to achieve its goal of becoming Nigeria’s leading state university.
He described the willingness of CIBN to establish the professional linkage programme as a boost to the university’s effort to become a centre of excellence in teaching, research and community service and promised that the university will cooperate with the delegation from the institute to facilitate its assignment.
In his remarks at the ceremony, the CIBN Chairman, Delta State Chapter, Barrister Charles Ojakovo, expressed the chapter’s enthusiasm for the establishment of the institute’s professional linkage programme at DELSU.
He highlighted the numerous benefits this initiative will bring to both staff and students, noting that the university also stands to gain from legacy projects that will significantly enhance its infrastructure.
Ojakovo assured the Vice-Chancellor of the commitment of CIBN to fully supporting the university in facilitating the programme, which will promote the professional development of bankers throughout the state.
In her address, the leader of the technical team from CIBN, Scholastica Moemeke, revealed that CIBN is the body established by law to determine the professional qualification and regulation of bankers in Nigeria.
According to the Moemeka, the delegation was at DELSU to evaluate relevant curricula and facilities for the establishment of the Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers-Bachelor of Science (ACIB-BSc) linkage programme, which will give undergraduate students of the university studying Banking and Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing and other related courses the opportunity to pursue professional registration with the institute for a fee as low as five thousand naira (with waiver for some basic professional examinations) against the standard professional registration fee of one hundred and fifty thousand naira for non-students seeking the same level of registration (without waiver in any of the professional examinations).
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof Ochuko Anomohanran, Provost of Oleh Campus, Prof ElohI bagere, and other principal officers among others.
