DELSU: Ogege Reelected Unopposed As Dean Of Social Sciences Faculty
The academic staff members of the Faculty of the Social Sciences at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, have elected Prof. Sam Ogege as Dean of the faculty for another two-year term.
Ogege, a renowned professor of Sociology at DELSU, was returned unopposed during a special Faculty Board of Studies meeting held on Monday.
The Faculty Officer, Mr. Patrick Etarighobe, who presided over the electoral process, disclosed that Ogege was the sole candidate nominated for the deanship election as of December 4, 2024, when the window for collection and return of nomination forms closed.
“Prof. Sam O. Ogege is hereby returned as the Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences for another two years,” declared Etarighobe, to the applause of faculty board members.
In his response, Ogege, who was first elected on December 12, 2022, thanked his colleagues for renewing their confidence in him through his unanimous reelection, describing it as a rare honour.
He promised not to disappoint the faculty in discharging his duties and assured to do everything within his power for the continuous progress of the faculty and its staff.
According to him, the past two years of his administration have been fruitful and successful due to the unflinching support provided by the faculty staff, noting that his second tenure as Dean would prioritise staff promotion, welfare, and mentoring.
Ogege also expressed gratitude to eminent professors in the faculty, including Prof. Peter Egbon, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at DELSU, for their availability for consultation whenever the need arose.
He further acknowledged the contributions of the late Prof. Andy Otite, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty, who worked assiduously to ensure his victory in 2022.
DELSU Echo reports that Ogege’s unopposed reelection was a fallout of his perceived overwhelming performance as Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences since December 2022.
While congratulating him on his reelection, a former Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Christian Ewhrudjakpor, thanked Ogege for the “bumper harvest of promotions” recorded in the faculty over the past two years.
Similarly, Prof. Callistar Obi, the university’s Director of the Centre for Continuing Education Programme, observed that Ogege kept all his campaign promises and would continue to ensure the faculty’s progress in his second term.
“He has been a father to all. He has maximum respect for senior professors in the faculty. He stands for the truth. He is a transparent leader, a progressive leader who prioritised the promotion and welfare of many within the faculty,” stated the professor of Economics.
Dr. Lucky Nwazu, Head of the Psychology Department at DELSU, also remarked that “obviously, his (Ogege’s) performance has earned him the second term of his deanship.”
On his part, the Head of the Political Science Department, Dr. Vincent Efebeh, agreed that Ogege’s reelection was well-deserved, stating that “one good turn deserves another.”
