Hardship: DELSU Slashes Work Days For Junior Staff
By Winner Enuma
In a move to address the high cost of transportation fares, the management of Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria has approved the reduction of work days for junior staff from five to three days per week, effective November 1, 2024.
The decision was made during a meeting held on October 15, 2024, where management considered the matter referred by the Senate and noted the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy on transportation costs.
According to a internal memo signed by the university’s Registrar, Mrs. Rufinat Ufiofio, the management acknowledged the unique circumstances across various faculties, directorates, and departments.
As such, Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments have been directed to come up with schedules that provide each junior staff member two days off per week, in line with the management’s decision.
The memo also emphasized the importance of proper time management and supervision of non-teaching staff to optimise job performance.
