DELSU DECIDES: Varsity Opts For Manual Voting, Sets New Election Date
Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), has decided to revert to manual voting for the upcoming 2022/2023 Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections following technical challenges encountered during the previous attempt at electronic voting.
The approval for manual voting was conveyed through a memo signed by Mr. Emmanuel Umukoro, the Deputy Registrar (Students), and was obtained by DELSU Echo on Monday.
The new election date is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023, at the institution’s Convocation Arena located at Site 3 of the Abraka Campus.
Previously, DELSU had embraced electronic voting for its SUG elections, but unforeseen technical hitches led to the cancellation of this year’s exercise, which was initially planned for last Thursday.
The cancellation disappointed many students who had patiently waited on campus to cast their votes, despite repeated assurances from the Electoral Committee that the issue would be resolved.

The election portal kept displaying the message “You seem to be in a low network area, please try again after some time,” causing significant frustration among students and hindering their opportunity to elect a new union leadership.
Following an emergency meeting, the committee decided to abandon electronic voting because of the unresolved technical issues, acknowledging the difficulty in adopting this method under the circumstances.
With the decision to revert to manual balloting, the university aims to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process for the students’ union election, fostering a fair representation of their voices in choosing their leaders.
