Yuletide: Time To Spread Joy, Hope, Says Egwunyenga

The Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, has called on Nigerians to leverage the festive season to extend joy and hope to the less fortunate.
Egwunyenga made the call at the university’s first Christmas carol held yesterday at its expansive convocation hall.
The university helmsman explained that the true meaning of Christmas transcends gifts and decorations, noting that the communal love and kindness associated with the season should be prioritised.
He said: “As we gather here today, let us remember the true meaning of Christmas. It is not the gifts or the decorations, but the love and kindness that we share.
“In the spirit of giving, let us reach out to those who are less fortunate and spread joy and hope to all.”

He enjoined guests at the epochal ceremony to reflect on the wonders of the season and “take a moment to appreciate the little things that make this time of the year special”, adding that the period calls for gratitude to God.
In a welcome address, chairman of the carols planning committee, Prof. Florence Ugoji explained that the lessons and carols are constant reminders of the timeless stories and melodies that have been passed down through generations.
“The nine lessons and carols tradition has deep roots in our university, and it is an event that we hold close to our hearts”, she said.
“It brings us a sense of unity, a time to reflect, and an opportunity to embrace the true meaning of the yuletide season.”
On his part, Very Reverend Father Anthony Ozele, who was the guest preacher at the event, declared that Christianity is a universal religion and not the opium of the masses as postulated by Karl Marx.
He urged the guests to focus attention on the sacrifices of Jesus Christ and spread love to people around them.

In an interview with DELSU Echo, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, said the event was spiritually stimulating and entertaining.
Ufuophu-Biri seized the opportunity to call on Nigerian leaders to spread love to the masses by improving infrastructures, economy and social standing of the country in the comity of nations.
DELSU Echo reports that the event attracted key stakeholders within and outside the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Rosemary Okoh and her Academics counterpart, Prof. Ochuko Anomohanran, Provost of Oleh Campus, Prof. Elo Ibagere, other principal officers and staff of the university and a large number of students, among others.
The event was electrified by diverse music and drama performances by groups across the university.
