For The Love Of Arsenal: DELSU VC Mulls Extension Of School Fees Deadline
There are indications that the management of Delta State University, Abraka would extend the January 5, 2024 deadline earlier set for the payment of school fees and online registration of courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.
This projection is sequel to a recent Facebook post made by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga.
The Vice-Chancellor had on Tuesday shared a post on his Facebook page on the lingering predicament of his favourite football club, Arsenal, which he believed to be facing the risk of exclusion from the top four teams in the current season of the English Premiere League.
“On current form, our beloved Arsenal Football Club faces the risk of not making top four this season with Timber, Partey, Tombiyasu, Vieira, and Zinchenko all down with injury”, posted the sports-loving Vice-Chancellor.

As expected, the post generated a number of comments with some students leveraging the opportunity to appeal to the Vice-Chancellor to graciously extend the deadline for payment of school fees and registration of courses for the current academic session.
Derek Okpako, one of the netizens who commented on the VC’s post, wrote: “Happy new year, sir. Arsenal can make the top four if you can just help extend the fees deadline sir, please. Thank you so much sir…”
In his reply, Egwunyenga who is always passionate about ‘The Gunners’ said: “I will do everything humanly possible to help my club”.
Although the response does not expressly suggest an extension of the deadline, a number of students are already thanking the university helmsman for the anticipated gesture.
Recall that the university had in a bulletin published on December 6, 2023 directed that students who fail to pay their school fees and register their courses on or before Friday, January 5, 2024 “will not be allowed to participate in any academic activity after the deadline.”
Contacted, President of the institution’s Students’ Union Government, Comr. Jimson Mathias said the union was making plans to write a letter of appeal to the Vice-Chancellor on the matter.
Mathias praised the Vice-Chancellor for always listening to the yearnings of students and expressed faith that the union’s request will be granted.
“As it has been observed in the past, the V-C is somebody who would most likely give a positive response to our appeal. He is considerate and I am sure that if we make an appeal he will give us a consideration”, said the union leader.
On his part, President of the Social Sciences Students’ Association, Comr. Samuel Onojaife, observed that the extension of the school fees payment schedule will further underscore the well-acclaimed magnanimity of the Vice-Chancellor and enable many students to meet their financial obligations to the university.
