Shame! Female DELSU Student Allegedly Steals Roommates’ Power Bank, Clothes, Money
A controversy recently erupted in Council Hall of residence at Delta State University, Abraka after a 100-level female student, identified as Ruona (other name withheld) was accused of stealing from her friends with whom she was squatting.
The accused student allegedly stole a power bank from one of her roommates, leading to a series of confrontations and a subsequent intervention by the hall porters.
Sources within the hostel told DELSU Echo that Ruona had reportedly complained about her roommates pilfering her belongings, prompting her to temporarily relocate to a friend’s room within the hostel.
However, her presence in the new room seemed to coincide with an increase in missing items, including a power bank and later, a stolen piece of clothing.
Suspicion grew when the power bank was spotted in her possession, leading to a series of confrontations from her roommates, but Ruona denied the theft, claiming that the power bank in her possession was one of the two power banks owned by her friend.
However, further investigation revealed that the said friend only owned one power bank, contrary to the accused student’s claim.

As tensions escalated, the situation attracted the attention of the hall porters who intervened to mediate the dispute.
After a thorough inquiry, it was determined that the accused student would be required to return the stolen power bank, the pilfered clothing, and compensate one of the victims with a sum of N3,000 she had allegedly stolen.
A moment later, the accused student returned from a dry cleaning shop with a dress similar to the one her roommate had declared missing, and upon careful examination, it was established that the dress was indeed the stolen one.
After persistent questioning, the accused student eventually admitted her guilt and asked for her colleagues’ forgiveness.
Regrettably, the roommates seemed not ready to have it as emotions ran high and the confrontation took a physical turn, with the situation drawing the attention of other hostel residents.
The incident has ignited debate among students, with conflicting opinions emerging regarding the accused student’s actions.
Some label her as a kleptomaniac, suggesting an impulse control disorder, while others opine that it may be a reflection of normal tendencies towards stealing.
The ongoing debate has left many questioning the underlying motivations behind the accused student’s actions, and further underscores the importance of addressing issues of theft and personal responsibility in school hostels.
Contacted, the Senator representing Council Hall at the SUG level, Comr. Precious Ochuko, acknowledged the development, but wondered why the student, who many believe to be relatively financially stable, would ever involve herself in such act.
Ochuko advised occupants of the hall to be more security conscious and contented with what they have.
