DELSU Extends School Fees Payment, Course Reg To Feb 5

The management of Delta State University, Abraka has extended the official deadline for the payment of school fees and registration of courses for the 2023/2024 academic to February 5.
Sources within the university management disclosed the new date to DELSU Echo in confirmation of our earlier exclusive report that the deadline will be extended today.
Our investigation also showed that the online registration portal, which was closed on Monday, has been reopened in line with the new date: February 5, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

Expectedly, the development has eased the tension among students who are yet to pay their sessional fees and register their courses online.
DELSU Echo reports that there is a palpable apprehension among students of the University who are yet to pay their school fees and register their courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The growing fear is premised on the January 5, 2024 deadline formally set by the university authorities for students to meet such obligations.
The university had in a bulletin published on December 6, 2023 directed that students who fail to pay their school fees and register their courses on or before Friday, January 5, 2024 “will not be allowed to participate in any academic activity after the deadline.”
The said bulletin appeared to have conflicted another issued by the school’s Public Relations Unit on the same day.
The initial bulletin had stated that the actual deadline for school fees payment and course registration would be January 31, 2024, offering students and parents a convenient timeframe to raise the money.

However, the joy was short-lived when a follow-up bulletin was swiftly issued by the same public relations unit to nullify the first date and set January 5, 2024 as the new deadline.
The unexpected change in the deadline and subsequent closure of the portal have set students on edge, with many of them appealing for an extension of the deadline and reopening of the online registration portal.
“Right now, the school environment is tensed and many students are on their toes, at least hoping and waiting for an official memo from the VC announcing an extension of the school fees payment and course registration deadline”, said a-300 level student who preferred not to be named.
Our investigation showed that across the various faculties of the university, many students have not been able to pay their fees and/or register their courses.
For instance, in the faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, only about 66 300-level students of Anatomy and Cell Biology Department seem to have completed their online registration in a class of over 200.
The situation is not different in the Faculty of Sciences where only about 53 300-level students in the Department of Biochemistry have completed their online registration for the 2023/2024 academic session in a class of about 160.
The registration quota was also poor in the Department of Mass Communication, which is arguably the largest in faculty of the Social Sciences, as only about 72 students seem to have completed their online registration in a level that has about 200 students.
