A recent ranking of Nigerian universities by SciVal has placed Delta State University, Abraka on the front pew of state universities in South-South and South-East Nigeria.

The SciVal ranking, released in January 2024 and obtained from the website of the global analytical agency, evaluated a total of 133 federal, state and private universities across Nigeria based on their scientific output in 2023.

According to the data, DELSU ranked first among state universities in South-South and South-East Nigeria, fourth among all universities in South-South, and twenty-second among the 133 universities evaluated by SCiVal.

SciVal is a research analytics product that uses the publications in the Scopus database as its dataset.

According to information on its website, “the ranking analysis in SciVal provides transparency into the bibliometric used in the Times Higher Education QS World University Ranking for ranked universities.”

Recently, the Vice-Chancellor of DELSU, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, said the university has made giant academic and infrastructural strides that have placed it in an enviable position in the comity of universities within and outside Nigeria.

Speaking at the institution’s 2023 matriculation ceremony held in Abraka on January 20, 2023, the V-C averred that DELSU has proven its mettle in pursuing its primary objectives.

He said: “The Alper/Doger (AD) Scientific Index Ranking for 2023 listed Delta State University (DELSU) as the 27th best university in Nigeria and the 4th best state university in Nigeria.

“It further listed DELSU as the best state university in the South-South and South-East Nigeria…these indices are huge improvements from the previous rankings of DELSU.”
