‘Expect 3-Day Sunshine, Haze’, NiMet Alerts Nigerians

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a period of sunshine and haziness across the nation from Sunday to Tuesday.

The forecast, released in Abuja on Sunday, indicates that the northern region will experience sunny skies within a hazy atmosphere during this timeframe.

Similarly, the North central region is expected to have sunny skies amid a hazy atmosphere.

In the Inland states of the South, NiMet anticipates a combination of cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine.

Coastal cities are likely to witness cloudy conditions with the possibility of thunderstorms over specific areas, including Edo, Ondo, Imo, Ebonyi, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the afternoon and evening hours.

On Monday, NiMet foresees dust haze over the northern region, accompanied by a visibility range of 2km to 5km.

The forecast also predicts dust haze over the North central region.

For the Inland states of the South and Coastal cities, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are expected.

NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions, especially as dust particles are in suspension.

Individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues are urged to be cautious.

The agency also warns of the potential for flash floods due to moderate to heavy rainfall and recommends that the public avoid driving and walking through floodwaters.

Additionally, NiMet highlights the likelihood of strong winds preceding and accompanying thunderstorms, advising the public to take necessary safety precautions.

Disaster Risk Managers, agencies, and individuals are encouraged to be proactive in order to prevent the loss of lives and property during the rainy season.

In light of these weather conditions, NiMet specifically advises airline operators to obtain updated weather reports from its office to facilitate effective planning for their operations.
