Egwunyenga Urges Varsity Staff To Embrace ICT, Gets SSANU Award
The Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), Prof. Andy Egwunyenga has urged members of the institution’s Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) to embrace modern digital technologies that would enhance their productivity.
Egwunyenga said such technological upgrade would not only ensure that SSANU members are operating in tandem with best practices but also increase their productivity and efficiency in task delivery.
He gave the charge during the 6th Regular Meeting of the Executive Council, South-South Zone of the Association, where he was presented with the prestigious “Green Panther of DELSU” award in recognition of his dedicated commitment to fostering an environmentally sustainable and healthy campus.
At the meeting, the association also honoured the Registrar of DELSU, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio, for her pivotal role in revitalising the Registry and supporting the Union..
“It will be appreciated if part of your deliberations are geared towards helping your members to hone their skills technologically, in line with present day practices, to enable them accomplish more in their work output, instead of continuing with the old, cumbersome methods”, the V-C told the large audience.
Egwunyenga praised SSANU members for consistently collaborating with university management to advance DELSU across various domains, saying that the university has grown tremendously under his stewardship.

He announced that, “DELSU, today, ranks as the 27th best University in Nigeria, the 4th best State-Owned University in Nigeria and the Number One State-Owned University in South-South and South East Geo-political zones of Nigeria”.
Reflecting on the collaborative rapport between the university management and SSANU, Egwunyenga expressed his gratitude for the award, acknowledging the significance of recognition from colleagues and associates.
Drawing from his extensive experience as a Union Leader, he lauded SSANU’s unwavering and principled advocacy, attributing the institution’s successes to the collective strength of the university community.
Addressing the audience, Chairman of SSANU-DELSU, Comrade Monday Izu, extolled Egwunyenga’s transformative leadership, commending his instrumental role in cultivating a verdant and pristine campus environment.
In his comment, the National Vice-President and Chairman of the South-South Zone, Comrade Cheta Azumah, hailed Egwunyenga’s multifaceted achievements that have propelled DELSU to unprecedented heights.
Also, the Deputy National President of the Association, Dr. Leku Ador, emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation between management and unions, particularly during challenging times, urging university authorities to prioritise the well-being of the masses.
On his part, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at DELSU, Prof. Godwin Demaki underscored the harmonious collaboration between ASUU and SSANU, emphasising their shared objectives in advancing staff welfare and institutional development.
