DELSU BWA Cooperative Society Holds Elections

By Favour  Emoefe/Awesome Emmanuel

Delta State University, Abraka, witnessed a vibrant display of democratic participation on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, as members of the Bursary Welfare Association Multipurpose Cooperative converged at the Old Pre-Degree Hall, Site 3, to elect new officials into key positions.

The election, which attracted broad participation from staff members, marked a significant moment in the cooperative’s journey toward inclusive governance and enhanced welfare delivery.

The focus of the election was the appointment of a new Assistant Secretary, with two notable contestants, Mrs. Ejiro O. Ohworho and Mrs. Gloria A. O. Amuro, vying for the role.

In addition to this central contest, six other candidates competed for positions on the Managerial Board.

The board contestants included Mrs. Joy Oyintombra Agbenewei, Mrs. Loveth Ngozi Bernard, Mr. Morris Erhuga Okonoko, Mrs. Blessing Uwagboe, Ms. Oyurhugbo Victoria Oghenevhoghagha and Mr. Richard Ejairo.

To ensure a smooth voting process, election officials implemented a well-organised system with voter registers clearly posted and divided by units.

The venue was segmented into Unit A (surnames A–D) and Unit B (surnames E–N), allowing participants to easily locate their names and proceed to cast their votes.

The effort was clearly evident in the structured layout, with visible signage guiding the electorate and enabling efficient crowd management.

The election atmosphere was both calm and energetic, with steady foot traffic throughout the day.

Staff members took their civic responsibilities seriously, arriving in groups to verify their names and contribute to the leadership selection process of their association.

A great turnout was recorded, that underlines the cooperative’s growing relevance in the lives of university personnel.

Speaking to some of the candidates and voters, there was a general consensus on the peaceful and transparent nature of the election.

One of the managerial board contestants expressed optimism: “This election is a step forward for accountability and inclusion. The cooperative will ensure to put the welfare of the teaching and non-teaching staff into consideration.”
