DELSU BWA Cooperative Elections: Ohworho, Others Emerge Victorious

By Favour Emoefe
Delta State University’s Bursary Welfare Association Multipurpose Cooperative has officially concluded its 2025 election process, with the announcement of results bringing renewed enthusiasm and purpose to staff members across the Abraka campus.
The election, held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, was marked by impressive turnout, transparent procedures, and a peaceful atmosphere that reflected the cooperative’s maturing democratic culture.
Following the collation and verification of votes, Mrs. Ejiro Ohworho emerged victorious as the newly elected Assistant Secretary, securing 332 votes ahead of her opponent Mrs. Gloria A. O. Amuro who secured 276 votes.
Her win marks a key milestone for the cooperative, as she steps into a vital role responsible for ensuring smooth administrative operations and fostering effective internal communication.
In the tightly contested race for positions on the Managerial Board, six candidates vied for limited seats. After a careful tally, the following individuals were elected based on their outstanding performance at the polls: Mr. Morris Erhiga Okonoko – 442 votes, Mr. Richard Ejairu – 398 votes, Ms. Oyurhugbo Victoria Oghenevwoghagha – 375 votes, Mrs. Loveth Ngozi Bernard – 340 votes.
These four candidates secured the highest number of votes and were elected to the board. Their victory reflects the trust and confidence placed in them by cooperative members to uphold the values of transparency, service, and accountability.
The remaining two candidates, though not elected, were also commended for their commitment and positive participation: Mrs. Joy Oyintombra Agbenewei – 326 votes, Mrs. Blessing Uwagboe – 295 votes.
Despite not winning seats on the board, their efforts and contributions to the electoral process were acknowledged as valuable expressions of civic duty and engagement.
The newly elected officials are expected to be sworn in during a formal ceremony later this month.
Once inaugurated, they will assume their respective responsibilities and begin executing plans aimed at enhancing the welfare of staff members through efficient financial support systems, transparency in decision-making, and responsive leadership.
Staff members who participated in the election expressed optimism about the future of the cooperative. Many noted that the newly elected leaders had presented well-thought-out manifestos and demonstrated a genuine desire to improve services and member satisfaction.
