Nigeria, Angola To Strengthen Aviation Ties

Minister of aviation and aerospace department, Festus Kayamo

In a strategic effort to enhance aviation relations between Nigeria and Angola, Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, hosted José Bamoquina Zau, the Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, along with his deputy, Nelson Kafikiri, at his office in Abuja yesterday.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Tunde Moshood, the Aviation Minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Ambassador Zau provided an update on the advancements within Angola’s aviation sector, notably the substantial overhaul of its airport infrastructure.

Ambassador Zau emphasized that the Honourable Minister of Transport is keen to forge a strong synergy between the two nations and is enthusiastic about leveraging Nigeria’s extensive experience in aviation leadership.

He also announced that Angola’s new airport, poised to become a key regional hub, is scheduled to open in one month.

Conveying a message from Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, Ambassador Zau extended cordial greetings and expressed Angola’s eagerness to engage in close collaboration with Nigeria.

He also formally invited Minister Keyamo to attend the grand opening of the new airport.

Zau underscored the potential for significant mutual benefits through enhanced cooperation, particularly in aviation business and infrastructure development.

In response, Minister Keyamo expressed commendation for Angola’s achievements in aviation infrastructure and affirmed his commitment to attend the airport’s inauguration.

He underscored Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Angola to improve air connectivity and explore new business opportunities.

“To facilitate effective coordination ahead of the event, the Aviation Minister has established a technical committee to collaborate with the Angolan Embassy’s team.

This committee will manage logistics and help solidify plans for the Minister’s visit, as well as identify potential areas for cooperation.

“The meeting highlights the ongoing dedication of both nations to advancing their aviation sectors and fostering a prosperous, mutually beneficial relationship,” the statement concluded.
