Nigerian Correctional Service Denies Monkeypox Outbreak in Custodial Centers

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that there are no cases of Monkeypox in its 256 custodial centers across the country.

Assistant Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar made this known in an interview with newsmen on Friday.

Umar attributed the service’s success in preventing the outbreak to proactive measures, including compliance with medical directives, robust sanitation systems, and adequate water supply.

He also disclosed that the service is working with state governments and the Ministry of Health to prevent the outbreak of Monkeypox in all custodial centers.

The NCoS has taken steps to prevent the spread of diseases, including ensuring health hygiene, robust sanitation systems, and adequate water supply.

The service has also embarked on the construction of three high-capacity custodial centers in three geopolitical zones to address accommodation challenges.

Umar assured that the service would maintain an infection-free regime in its custodial centers, adding that the Minister of Interior and the NCoS Controller General are doing everything necessary to prevent the spread of Monkeypox.
