DELSU Supreme Students’ Senate Slashes Union Dues, Gives New Directive

The Supreme Students’ Senate (SSS), the legislative arm of the Student Union Government of Delta State University, Abraka, has approved the standardization and regularization of dues at ₦700, effective immediately.

In a bold move, the Students’ Representative Council has submitted a proposal to the Supreme Students’ Senate to slash dues across the university.

The proposal, dated September 9th, 2024, suggests a standardized dues of ₦500, a significant decrease from current rates.

This development is a response to growing concerns about the financial burden on students and the need for transparency and accountability in the collection of dues.

In a move to protect the interests of students, the Supreme Students’ Senate has taken a bold stance against the irregular prices and inflated rates that have been plaguing associations and unions across the university.

The Senate’s move is seen as a major victory for students, who have long been complaining about the unfair prices. With the Senate’s support, students can now look forward to a fairer and more transparent system that puts their needs first.

Responding to the growing concerns of students, the Senate has written a strongly-worded letter calling for an end to the previous price.

“Pertaining to the standardization of dues across the institution. Following a comprehensive and rigorous deliberation, we have reached a consensus on this matter, taking into account the prevailing economic conditions and the concerns articulated by the student populace. This standardized fee structure is intended to promote fairness, transparency, and financial inclusivity for all students. Pursuant to our previous deliberations, the Supreme Students’ Senate (SSS) has established a uniform benchmark of ₦700 as the maximum amount permissible for all dues related to the following categories.” The letter holds.

Effective immediately, all Faculty association dues, Departmental association dues, Cultural dues, Hostel dues, Club dues, and Any other body dues with SUG-affiliated organizations must adhere to the new policy set by the Supreme Students’ Senate.

With this new policy in place, students can now enjoy a more streamlined and affordable experience, free from the burden of excessive dues.

In a show of understanding and flexibility, the Supreme Students’ Senate has announced that organizations that find the new dues policy unsuitable can request an increase in writing.

This request must be addressed to the SSS, through the SRC, and must be submitted before the stipulated timeframe.

This directive is a significant step towards creating a fair and transparent system for all students, and ensures that no student is burdened by excessive dues, as well as its willingness to listen to the concerns of all organizations.

By providing a clear and formal process for requesting a dues increase, the Senate is ensuring that all voices are heard and that no organization is unfairly disadvantaged.
