NSCDC Deploys 6,433 Personnel For Edo Gov Election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 6,433 officers and men for the Edo State Governorship Election.

Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, charged the deployed personnel to remain apolitical, act professionally, and maintain discipline while on election duty.

Dr. Audi emphasized the vital role of the NSCDC in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, particularly election materials.

The security of election materials, both sensitive and non-sensitive, is crucial before, during, and after the election.

According to the National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, over 300 operatives each from Ondo, Delta, Kogi, Osun, Imo, and Enugu Commands will be deployed.

Edo State Command has approximately 3,626 officers on the ground, while Rivers and Bayelsa State Commands will deploy 400 and 350 personnel, respectively.

Additionally, 607 Special Forces from the National Headquarters will be deployed, comprising the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Special Female Squad, Anti-Vandal Squad, and Chemical Biological Radiological and Explosive Unit.

The Kennel (K9) Unit has also been mobilized for the election.

Dr. Audi stated that the deployment will cover all areas, including flashpoints, and that personnel will work in synergy with other security agencies.

Undercover officers have been deployed to maintain surveillance and provide real-time intelligence reports from all 18 local governments in Edo State.

The Commandant General warned politicians against heating up the polity and advised them to shun violence, thuggery, and electoral malpractices.

Dr. Audi also directed Deputy Commandant General Philip Ayuba to supervise, monitor, and coordinate the deployed personnel before, during, and after the elections.
