Tinubu Approves Buses For Higher Institutions, Kicks Against Indiscriminate Fee Hike

In a move to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on students attending universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide, President Bola Tinubu has approved the provision of buses to student bodies.

The decision aims to enable students to access their campuses more easily amid rising transportation costs.

The approval was announced by Mr. Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja.

Alake said the President also approved the removal of all restrictions on student loans as part of his commitment at ensuring Nigerian students can pursue their education without financial constraints.

Tinubu also directed all federal tertiary institutions to refrain from arbitrary increases in sundry fees and, wherever possible, to defer any further fee hikes.

This measure is aimed at easing the difficulties faced by parents during these challenging economic times.

The president disclosed said that efforts are being worked out to ensure that vulnerable students can also benefit from conditional cash transfers and food distribution.

He saluted the courage, wisdom and partnership of Nigerian Students as the country navigates this challenging time.

He pledged to continue to prioritise education, the needs of the students, welfare of both teaching and non-academic staff as well as infrastructure investment in institutions of higher learning to make them more globally competitive.
