NSCD Arrest Seven During Fuel Hike Protest In Kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has detained seven individuals following a fuel hike protest by commercial vehicle operators in Ilorin, Kwara State, on September 5, 2024.

According to a statement from NSCDC Kwara command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, the suspects were arrested for engaging in unlawful and violent behavior during the protest.

Michael reported that the suspects were involved in incidents of theft and violence, including an attack on Olusegun Taiwo from the Sango area of Ilorin.

Taiwo, who was on her way to her office, was robbed of her bag, phones, and other valuables by a group of youths believed to be hoodlums.

Following the report, NSCDC operatives apprehended the suspects, who were found to be part of a larger group responsible for causing public unrest in Ilorin.

The protest, originally organized by commercial tricycle and motorcycle riders, was reportedly hijacked by these hoodlums, leading to increased theft and disorder in the city.

NSCDC Kwara State Commandant Umar Mohammed assured residents of Kwara State of the Command’s commitment to maintaining public order and addressing criminal activities.

The arrested suspects will face legal action in court.
