Nigerian singer and record producer, Davido, sparked a heated debate on social media after proclaiming himself the “King of Nigeria” in a recent video.

The video, posted on showed Davido meeting a young man who introduced himself as the Prince of Saudi Arabia in Paris.

During the encounter, Davido introduced himself as the “King of Nigeria” while exchanging pleasantries and taking photos with the prince.

The declaration stirred mixed reactions online, with fans and critics offering their opinions on the matter.

Some supporters agreed that Davido had earned the title, citing his achievements in the music industry.

One user, Gozie, commented, “He’s earned it. He can go ahead.”

However, others saw it as unnecessary bragging, with Whizkid FC responding, “Brag over nothing.”

Big BOJ mocked the idea that Davido is part of the “big three” in Nigerian music, while Lirah Back bluntly said, “You wey no get talent.”

El Kopik remarked, “Anyone who calls himself a king is not a true king.”

Despite the backlash, some fans defended Davido’s confidence, arguing that he is the biggest artist in Africa.

Rossie commented, “He’s the biggest artist in Africa, so it’s understandable.”

Ayochukwu Emmanuel added, “This one don pain Una abi,,,i can see pain going straight to some of Una,,,,,,But no doubt Davido is King weather Una like it or not….U get the point now.”

Senator Dino Melaye also chimed in, labelling Davido as “001” in the Nigerian music industry and calling him the most globally recognised Nigerian artiste.

Davido has made bold claims before, including a tweet earlier this year stating that since his debut, no one has had peace in the music industry, a statement he said he was proud of.

Last year, he also addressed naysayers, reminding them of his Grammy nomination and listing his accomplishments, despite facing mockery in the past.

Davido’s confidence and achievements have sparked a debate about what it means to be a “king” in the music industry.

While some see it as a title that must be earned through hard work and dedication, others believe it is a state of mind.
