The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency recently partnered to host a day-long boot camp, tagged ‘Eco Explorers Bootcamp,’ aimed at educating children about environmental protection.

The event, held at the Dr. Oluyomi Abayomi Finnih Park by Opebi Link Bridge, Lagos, sought to inspire kids to connect with and cherish the natural world while teaching them sustainable environmental practices.

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, explained that the boot camp aimed to ensure children acquired knowledge about the environment and transmitted it to their friends.

Ajayi highlighted LASEPA’s efforts in addressing various environmental issues, including air, water, and land pollution, as well as protecting natural resources and wetlands.

He emphasized the agency’s commitment to reducing emissions across industrial activities in Lagos and advocating for environmental protection.

Adebowale Tolulope, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Environmental Protection, described the program as an advocacy initiative created for children to learn about environmental protection and become responsible for the environment.

Tolulope expressed the hope that the program would instill habits and culture in children that they would carry into adulthood, making them responsible citizens who take actions to protect the environment.

The boot camp focused on teaching children how to protect natural resources, such as animals, and how to recycle waste materials.

The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection among children and encourage them to make better decisions that would help the environment in the long run.
