NOA, UNICEF Tell Parents Why Their Children May Loose Citizenship Rights

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and UNICEF have jointly emphasized the importance of birth registration for children aged 0-5 years, warning parents that failure to do so may deny their children citizenship rights.

At an event held at the NOA headquarters in Osogbo, Osun State, NOA State Director Bola Morgan stressed that birth registration is a fundamental right that should not be denied to any child.

She explained that the initiative aims to register all children in this age group and provide them with a National Identification Number (NIN) free of charge.

Morgan highlighted the significance of birth registration, stating that it unlocks access to essential services like education and healthcare, crucial for a child’s development and future.

Accurate birth registration is also vital for national planning and development, providing the government with essential data to plan for public services.

Gbenga Osungbohun, representing the National Population Commission (NPC), urged parents to fulfill their duty to their children by registering their births and ensuring proper documentation.

He encouraged parents and guardians to take advantage of the ongoing free registration to secure their unregistered children’s citizenship rights.
