Govt Names Next State To Suffer Devastating Flood. Check For Yours
The Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to take the flood alerts and precautionary measures put in place seriously, in order to reduce the impacts of impending floods.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Commissioner for Communication, Bola Olukoju, emphasized that various government agencies have conducted extensive public enlightenment programs to educate citizens on flooding and mitigation strategies, particularly in prone areas.
According to Olukoju, the government has taken proactive steps to reduce flood risks, including clearing drainages and water passages within the metropolis.
Additionally, efforts are being made to discourage actions that worsen climate crisis threats and rising water levels.
In riverine communities such as Patigi and Edu, local leaders are working closely with residents to relocate to safer areas.
The government is supporting these efforts, appealing to citizens to heed this critical advice.
“The state government will continue to lend its voice to call for the dredging of the River Niger, which is the permanent solution to the perennial flooding in that axis” Olukoju stated.
Residents are advised to take the flood alerts seriously and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
The government’s efforts, combined with citizen cooperation, can significantly reduce the impacts of flooding.
“We appeal to our people to follow this important advisory as the government does its part of supporting them in various ways” Olukoju urged.
